I was asked by a local San Diego outlet to define my #Perfect #SanDiego day. So without further ado..
A: My favorite San Diego days usually revolve around good food, great friends and enjoying the general splendor and natural beauty of my native city. So here’s what my itinerary would look like it I could pack it all into one perfect day.
8am - Breakfast Burrito #2 at Pipes Cafe in Cardiff. Walk across the street to pick up a venerated maple glazed donut from VG’s. Jog it off on dog beach with my pug, Bear.
9:30am – Stop at Café Secret in Del Mar for a Peruvian purple punch aka Chicha (my latest obsession) before heading down to La Jolla.
10:25 am – Take my paddleboard out for a SUP session around La Jolla Shores.
11:15am – Walk over to The Living Room off Prospect to read the paper while drinking a café au lait.
12:10 – Lunch at Jeff’s Burgers probably gyros and fries (a family beach-going tradition since before I can remember.)
1:15pm – Take the coaster downtown and head to Coronado via ferry. Rent a bike. Stop for a margarita and chips and salsa at Miguelitos. If it’s too hot, MooTime froyo at the Hotel Del. Or both.
3:30pm – Grab a hat and head back up the coast in time for 5 o’clock Friday at the Del Mar Race Track. Obviously, since it’s my perfect day, I’d win the trifecta in race 9 and Weezer or Jimmy Eat World would be the headliner.
7:45pm – After the races, the show a Del Mar-tini and a quick change, my friends and I would Uber downtown for tapas and pitchers of sangria at Meze in Gaslamp or The Smoking Goat in North Park.
10:15pm – Head to Stingaree in the Gaslamp or if we're in the mood for something more low-key, Uber over to the Tap Room or PB Bar and Grill.
1am – Wherever we go, late night carne asada at Juanitas in Encinitas are a must. #PerfectDay.
